Here is a description of the pieces that are working and a rough outline of some of the todo’s, but to make things clearer (and quite frankly to show off some of the good bits) I’ve included a short video with a commentary covering some of the more interesting stuff.

Apologies to the BBC (it’s their multiplex) and to MGM for reproducing their material (I’m sure they’ll be in touch if it needs to be removed.)

NOTE: this is a developer code release, it functions but needs to be nursed along and tweaked, it’s a million miles away from end-user consumption.

DVB Decoding

    Decodes audio, video and subtitle streams
    Decodes the SI tables for channel info, EPG etc and stores in an SQLite3 database
    Pause, Rewind and Fast Forward
    Keyframe indexing for search, and rewind

DVD Decoding

    Decodes standard def DVD with 5.1 audio
    Decodes DVD subtitles (and does the right thing with the subtitle colour palettes)
    Correctly implements DVD Navigation and highlighting (apart from “activate” colours)
    Supports multiple audio and subtitle streams

FFMPEG Based MPEG Decoding

    Good quality picture decoding thanks to FFMPEG

Shader Based Stuff

    YUV to RGB conversion in OpenGL Shader (i.e. on the GPU)
    Deinterlace in OpenGL Shader

Embedded JavaScript Engine (Mozilla)

    The SeaMonkey javascript engine is embedded from controlling UI etc

Simple ‘panel based animation’

    Animated UI system using JavaScript “panel” object
